How can I mend a ripped garden parasol?

Our large garden Umbrella (that goes in the hole in the middle of our table) has got a couple of rips in it. What’s the best way to mend it? The fabric is quite tough, so I guess I need to glue or stick some similar fabric over the rips but if any of you have any suggestions, or have done this yourself, I would be grateful for any tips.

Best way to mend this is to use a strong weatherproof glue, then add a patch over the top, approx 2inches overhang around the tear & then stitch this to the parasol with some heavy duty thick cotton.

Ask in a local tent shop as they usually sell this sort of thing for patching rips in tents. Try your local sewing shop also.
